Music Research

Four friends and I were assigned a music marketing campaign project to start a new band utilizing only the song and genre and a marketing plan to expand the band over the course of three weeks. Given our genre, punk, it came as a surprise. Punk is generally regarded as a strange and unusual music genre when compared to other types. My group is fortunate in that we are familiar with the music industry and some of the bands we like to listen to. Therefore, this was advantageous to us. We were able to take the greatest elements of each other's ideas so that we can focus completely on the music video and advertising strategy. To exchange our contact details and the assignment distribution plan, we used a Google Doc.

With this genre in mind, we investigated two key case studies, With Confidence and The Killers, to find out more about its core demographic, marketing initiatives, and distribution. My expertise in research came from my enthusiasm for discovering the various tactics used by artists to reach their intended audience. We discussed each band's marketing materials, typography, and design. We stuck with a dark color scheme that includes shades of grey and black because it complements the design. At this point, NRV emerged as our band's name. We chose the name NRV because it sounds like "nerve," which is a symbol of confidence. This is how they want our listeners to feel when they hear their music. The most crucial aspect of being an artist is maintaining contact with the audience. Our marketing samples demonstrate how our band is present and actively communicating with its fans on social media sites like Twitter and Instagram. In order to maintain the main subject of the music video, we synchronized the words with what was produced on screen.

This project taught me the value of patience, cooperation, and time management. Working around one another's schedules was the hardest challenge because one person might be out of the country and the other would have after-school extracurricular activities. Overall, with each of us employing our individual communication and compromising attributes, we were able to overcome that obstacle.
